Private Writing Tutor from StudyPoint
Dear Parent —
I know what it is like to struggle with writing. My senior year of high school I actually had a member of the English Department say to me, "I can't believe you've been in our English classes for 4 years and still write this poorly." Needless to say, that was a bit of a low point for me.
It can be exceedingly difficult to draft coherent and persuasive prose that communicates a clear message to one's audience. Yet by the time I graduated from Cornell, writing had become one of my greatest strengths, and with every year that passes I grow increasingly appreciative of the writing instruction I received in college.
Investing in writing tutoring for your child will have both short and long term payoffs. With the exception of math class, strong writing impacts every single subject your child studies. Whether it's the humanities or the sciences, your child's writing skills directly impact his or her grades on papers, essay exams, and other assignments. I've personally tutored students who understood the underlying content, but were unable to communicate that understanding in papers and exams because of poor writing skills. By improving your child's performance across multiple academic subjects, writing tutoring has a very real short term impact.
Over the longer term, strong writing is essential to strong college applications, a successful college experience, future job applications, and even success within those future roles. In our society individuals who can effectively communicate a point of view hold perhaps the most valuable of personal and professional skills.
It is my appreciation for and belief in the importance of strong writing skills that led us to develop our Summer Writing Program. It is a fantastic way to keep your child learning and engaged over the summer, and it will pay dividends both next school year and beyond.
